Since I’m moving at the end of the month, I’ve turned to Instagram for inspiration on how to decorate my new place. The amount of accounts to follow on the subject is endless, so I decided to share with you my three favorites when it comes to all things home décor:
Update Interiors is a store located in Oak Park that was founded on the belief that people are forever looking to “update” their homes or living spaces. Barbara Bernick, the owner of the store, has great taste and has done an amazing job of curating unique products for the store. It’s hard to go in without buying anything! My last purchase? This candle, that as they mentioned in their caption, really is too beautiful to burn!
I first heard about Homepolish after reading an article on one of my favorite blogs, Lux & Concord, about online interior design services. The company is on a mission to change the design industry by doing away with the traditional interior design model and charging a flat hourly fee instead. After browsing through their Instagram account, I knew it was a must-follow. I’ve been hooked on finding the perfect statement couch and think this could be it!
LuluandGeorgia.com is an online home décor boutique with an amazing array of products ranging from rugs to furniture to accessories. I love browsing their site, however; it’s always hard for me to imagine how a product will actually look in a room. This is where their Instagram account comes into play – it shows how their products look stylized in someone’s home. This rug is definitely high up on my wish list!
As the keeper of the keys for several client Instagram accounts, I see a wide range of photos on a daily basis. From impeccably stylized style shots to close-ups of food that looks way too good to eat (#youdidnoteatthat), it’s image overload by the end of the day. So when it comes to my personal account, I’m fairly selective about who I follow. In addition to @skirtpr (obvs!), my friends, my favorite magazines and a few brands I love, these are three of the Instagram accounts that I am always sure to check before the day is over:
A quick glimpse at this account and you’re immediately struck with a technicolor bout of wanderlust. There is something so simple yet overindulgent about Matt’s photos, which is why I have spent many train rides scrolling through his feed. Plus, anyone who can make an In-N-Out sign look this good deserves some serious kudos.
Murad’s #followmeto series is a new kind of travel inspiration and I can’t get enough. Each photo is shot to look like you’re holding hands with model Natalia, adventuring to places like Ibiza and the Taj Mahal. Topped off with some killer editing, these photos are worth a quick screenshot.
I discovered Carin’s blog and Instagram while planning a holiday trip to Paris last year and instantly fell for her light aesthetic. She showcases Paris as only someone with a real appreciation for the city could and her photos of iconic cream colored buildings inspired many of my own snapshots. Until I can make the trip abroad again, I’ll continue to live vicariously through Carin.
Something about spring always marks a return to my ongoing obsession with makeup. I’m a product junkie and not a day goes by where I’m not on the hunt for a new makeup look to try or a new Sephora purchase to make. (Which means a never-ending stream of UPS deliveries – sorry, husband.) In honor of perking up your beauty routine for the new season (and maybe learning a thing or two!), here are a few of my go-to Instagram resources:
Deepica Mutyala is a beauty guru and former Birchbox staffer who recently launched her own brand. I remember seeing her spotlighted on Birchbox’s Instagram and loving her makeup tips, so when I realized she went solo, she was an obvious must-follow. From her infamous dark under eye circle concealer tutorial (it involves red lipstick – gasp!) to contouring tricks, Deepica will easily become your go-to beauty pro.
Go ahead and click through to her Instagram. Need I say more? Sazan is STUNNING, and her makeup is so #onpoint, it’s out of this world. I love that this fashion and beauty blogger rocks a variety of beauty looks (think full-out glam to neutral and sultry), so I’m never at a loss for inspiration. Her flawless, glowing skin will keep you entranced for DAYS.
Had to send some love to a local Chicago makeup artist! We’ve worked with Shannon O’Brien on various endeavors and her talent is sometimes best seen on one particular canvas: herself! The eye candy on her feed goes from an everyday pop to completely avant-garde, but you can always count on being mesmerized by her brows. Plus, I love that she calls out the products she uses in her captions! Super helpful for a shopaholic like me.
Who do you turn to for beauty advice?
Instagram is my go-to social media network. I use it as a way to stay inspired, in the know, and on trend. I personally do not know the majority of the accounts that I follow, but here are a few of my favorite accounts at the moment!
I love to follow Karlie Kloss because I get a snapshot of a supermodel world. Whether it is a behind-the-scenes image of editorial shoots, runway shows, or the hottest parties, I always love to see what Karlie is up to.
I am currently obsessed with DYLANEX jewelry! I love to follow their creative director, Drew Ginsburg, on Instagram so I can see all of their styles and different ways she styles the pieces.
As a girl on the go, I enjoy Greatist’s easy healthy recipes, words of motivation and exercise tips!
When I’m in need of inspiration, there are usually three different categories that appear in my Pinterest search tab: fashion, food, and weddings. Here are a few of my favorites that I am continuously repining from.
Whenever I am in a fashion rut, I always seem to find myself on Pinterest looking for some new ideas. I gravitate toward Blair Eadie’s Pinterest page for her preppy, classic,-with-a-twist fashion sense.
For an all-around search from entertaining ideas to recipes, I head to Lauren Conrad’s Pinterest page. It is always so bright and cheerful; I could click “Pin It” all day long!
And of course, what would my Pinterest page be without a wedding inspiration board? I am always thinking of out-of-the-box ideas and have found some pretty cool ones. Style Me Pretty features some amazing weddings… which makes me wish I could attend them all! My wedding board is hidden at the moment, but once the big day is over, I will be sure to make it visible. Have to give the guests a little surprise.
