Late Winter Entertainment

RWL_HEADER

Truthfully, I’ve just been trying to power through these last few weeks of winter to welcome springtime and warm temps. While I wait, I’ve been relying on these picks as a distraction.

HOW TO MURDER YOUR LIFE CAT MARNELL

Reading: How To Murder Your Life” by Cat Marnell
I’ve heard nothing but rave reviews about this former beauty editor’s memoir. I’m not usually one for non-fiction, but after reading that this best-seller is equal parts poignant and funny, I’m changing my tune and hitting “add to cart.”

BIG LITTLE LIES HBO

Watching: Big Little Lies
I know I’m not alone in making “Big Little Lies” my new Sunday night obsession. I read the book a few months ago and have been awaiting the show’s debut ever since. The casting is impeccable and the scenery is gorgeous — Reese can do no wrong in my eyes.

Listening: Shining” by DJ Khaled, Beyoncé and JAY Z
It’s always fire when Jay and Bey link up on a track! Shining is no exception. #PowerCouple

love and lemons cook book (2)

Reading: Love & Lemons Cookbook
I am currently in a month-long veggie challenge that my cousin organized. The goal is to eat five servings of vegetables a day. With that being said, I am on the search for yummy veggie-inspired recipes. I have found a lot of them in this cookbook and website! #VegUpChallenge

DESIGNATED SURVIVOR

Watching: “Designated Survivor”
I was a huge fan of “24” and Jack Bauer, so I had to check out this show. While it is not “24,” it definitely leaves you in suspense and wanting more. I am excited to see what happens in the season premiere in March!

Listening: “I Don’t Wanna Live Forever” by Zayn and Taylor Swift
In anticipation of the new “Fifty Shades of Darker” movie coming out, this song is everywhere. This will be on my playlist for the next few weeks.

Casey’s Fall Favorites

RWL_HEADER

While most of my attention has been devoted to the Cubs and the election this fall, I’ve been making time to catch up on a few other forms of entertainment, too. My recent picks:

nightingale

Reading: “The Nightingale” by Kristin Hannah
Admittedly, I’ve been slacking on the reading front since mid-summer when I read “Truly, Madly, Guilty” in one sitting. But with the weather cooling down and the nights getting shorter, I’ve found myself finally carving out some time to catch up on the stack of books sitting in my living room. This includes “The Nightingale” which tells the story of two French sisters during World War II and the ways in which their circumstances affect their relationship.

DIVORCE HBO

Watching: “Divorce
Sarah Jessica Parker has returned to HBO for a show that feels completely different from “Sex & The City,” and I am hooked. “Divorce” centers on a couple navigating through the potential breakdown of their marriage. From the subtle comedic elements (Molly Shannon makes several appearances) to the way stars SJP and Thomas Haden Church deliver their lines, I have laughed out loud several times during the first three episodes. I find that the humor sprinkled throughout the series is worth the sometimes dark road it takes to get there, so buckle up and enjoy the show.

Listening: “Love Me Now” by John Legend
All of me loves all of John Legend. The first single from his upcoming album (his first since 2013!) has only reignited my love for his soulful tunes. I could listen to this on repeat while scrolling through his and Chrissy Teigen’s Instagram posts of baby Luna

What is keeping you entertained this autumn?

Brittany’s Summer Hits

RWL_HEADER

It’s official, my favorite season is finally here! With summer in full swing, I have found myself absolutely falling in love with all that Chicago has to offer during the summertime- Cubs games, movie nights in Millennium Park, trips to the lakefront, need I say more? However, when I’m not exploring this wonderful city, you can find me tanning on North Avenue beach, running along Lakeshore Drive and of course, binge-watching Netflix – so here’s what I’m currently reading, watching and listening to:

The Girls _Book Image

Reading: “The Girls” by Emma Cline

A friend recently recommended this book to me, but warned me that I should only read it when I had literally nothing to do for the next 48 hours. She was right. Once I read the first chapter of Emma Cline’s first novel, The Girls, I could not put it down. Based on the story of Charles Manson and his followers, this mysterious, juicy and heart-thumping page-turner is a book you won’t want to miss.

OITNB SEASON FOUR

Watching: “Orange Is the New Black”

When its fourth season debuted on Netflix, it seemed like every snapchat I saw was a TV/computer screen with the Orange is the New Black logo. Naturally, I had to see what all the hype was about. Orange Is the New Black tells the story of an upper middle class woman’s adjustment to life in a women’s prison in Connecticut and the many eclectic and unusual characters she meets along the way. It’s worth the hype, I promise.

Listening: Alex Newell, “Kill The Lights (with Nile Rodgers) – Audien Remix

I recently heard this song over forth of July weekend and haven’t stopped listening to it ever since. Whether you’re commuting to work, hanging out with friends, soaking up the Chicago sun or training for a marathon, this song will give you all the summer feels.

KALLI’S RAINY DAY NECESSITIES

As it turns out, April showers not only bring May flowers, but even more showers as far as Chicago is concerned. Amidst the unpredictable weather, one thing is certain – I can be found cuddling up to a good read, the newest Netflix series or a chill playlist on Spotify until the sun shows its bright, shiny face.

1440518766-cos090115cultalesbackrow-003

Reading: “Tales From the Back Row” by Amy Odell
After sobbing my way through “Me Before You” by JoJo Moynes, I was ready to switch it up with some light-hearted humor. “Tales From the Back Row” shares the inspiring, honest accounts of one Cosmopolitan.com editor’s career thus far. The stories are smart and full of wit – a must-read for the fashion-obsessed.

Watching: Love a Netflix original series
Two things I am always a sucker for: love and anything Judd Apatow produces. I finished all ten episodes of the first season in less days, and am already pining for season 2.

Listening: We Won’t” by Jaymes Young & Phoebe Ryan
The combination of chilly temperatures, rainy days and binge-watching a series documenting modern romance and heartbreak led me down the rabbit hole of sappy Spotify tunes. I eventually landed on this duet and have had it on repeat ever since!

What series, tunes or books do you curl up to on a rainy day?
