Aaron’s Beach Playlist

We took that corner from Spring into Summer so quickly this year, we barely had time to prep our iPods with relaxing, beach-worthy playlists. Well, I’ve got one here that will do in a pinch. These songs capture that chill, summer vibe perfect for your weekend pool party or July 4th barbecue. While I’m out catching some rays this summer, I’ll be listening to some of these songs that I’m sure you’ll enjoy.

Don’t forget the sunscreen!

Help Yourself, Amy Winehouse

We lost a true artist in Amy Winehouse last year. She starts us off with this jazzy, breezy throwback. Always missed and never forgotten, Ms. Winehouse brings her characteristic, soulful cynicism to this jaunty tune. Here, she hilariously yet sagely celebrates the highs and lows of youthful romance: forever her trademark theme. We miss you Amy!

Never Saw the Point, Cults

Cults was one of a few breakout indie pop acts of last year, and it’s easy to see why. Their whole repertoire is perfectly evocative of that West Coast, surf city vibe, and none more than this song. You’ll find Cults always catchy and upbeat, even when they’re singing about breakups and broken hearts. Enjoy this track when you find yourself driving up the PCH this summer!

Half Mast, Empire of the Sun

One of my all-time favorite tracks from one of my all-time favorite bands. This song is actually perfect for any season, but this darkly playful song just goes so well with this playlist. And Empire of the Sun belongs at the beach!

Run, Vampire Weekend

Vampire Weekend are always good for a good hipster hit. This album was what all the kids were playing a couple summers ago while out throwing Frisbees and playing volleyball. Well, we’re bringing it back! Goes well with a refreshing PBR.

Another One Goes By, The Walkmen

The Walkmen round out the playlist with this oldie cover, delivering their typically haunting melody and characteristic garage band twang.Thiswistfultuneis perfect for watching that amber sun slowly sinking below the waves. You can practically feel that sunset breeze on your face and a mojito in your hand!

Bonus Track: Summertime Sadness – Lana Del Rey

I’d be remiss if I skipped out on one of the biggest talents to come about this year: Lana Del Rey. This song basically sums up her whole vibe; don’t let the title fool you, this track is pure Summertime Awesomeness! She’s truly a living legend, glamorously evoking a legendary bygone-era and mood.
