Trend Watch: Winter Pastels

We love discovering new trends and rely on our favorite blogs and magazines to keep us in the know. When we find a look we love, we tend to embrace it in lots of different ways – through clothing, accessories, home décor, and beyond. In today’s “Trend Watch” feature, see how Casey plans to incorporate pastels into her life this winter.

Sure, I love a little neon from time to time and regularly rock head to toe neutrals, but nothing makes my heart skip a beat like the perfect pastel shade. I’m thrilled that these soft and feminine shades are sticking around this winter. Here are a few items I’m loving (and lusting after from afar) lately.

Scotch Naturals Nail Lacquer in “Roasted Mellow”
Described eloquently as “lambswool crème,” this shade is a unique mix of a very light gray and lilac. The perfect departure from my standard shades (“Snap Happy” by Essie; “Lincoln Park After Dark” by OPI) and non-toxic and eco-friendly to boot.

Fleur B. Pink Bow Coat
Completely out of my price range and as any Chicago girl can attest, far from practical, I spotted this sweet coat on Tumblr a few weeks ago and haven’t stopped thinking about it since. Until I can find a worthy dupe, this pastel piece is strictly lust list material.

ZAC Zac Posen “Eartha” Barrel Satchel
A lifelong bag lady, I haven’t been impressed with the it-bag offerings over the last few seasons. I’m drawn to simple silhouettes with smart embellishments; this beauty from Zac Posen’s collection is the it-bag I’ve been waiting for.

Rebecca Taylor Textured Pullover
The top three reasons I love this sweater: 1. Wool + cashmere. Sold! 2. Mixing textures is my favorite. 3. The shade is called confetti. Confetti!

J.Crew Italian Brushed Scarf in Misty Green
If there is one indulgence I fully support (and will endorse), it’s scarves. I get this philosophy from my grandmother, who believes that when traveling all you need is one outfit, your favorite coat, 10-15 scarves and you’re set. I think she’ll approve of the latest addition to my collection.

Accessory Concierge “Alice In Chains” Necklace
Pastels with an edge – #killinit, Accessory Concierge! This will make a fabulous addition to any holiday outfit, including the aforementioned Rebecca Taylor sweater. It’s like your very own tinsel!

What winter trend are you indulging in this year?

Trend Watch: Tortoiseshell Accessories

We love discovering new trends and rely on our favorite blogs and magazines to keep us in the know. When we find a look we love, we tend to embrace it in lots of different ways – through clothing, accessories, home décor, and beyond. In today’s “Trend Watch” feature, see how Casey incorporates tortoiseshell into her life.

My affinity for tortoiseshell accents began when I was a pre-teen and my cousin Kenny started her own belt business. After perusing her impressive inventory of preppy ribbons, I selected a pink and green whale print, accented with a tortoiseshell buckle. While the print was a bit much for everyday wear, the buckle was the perfect neutral; and thus began my love affair with all things tortoiseshell.

In addition to the Insta-famous spoons from NYC’s Happy Bones, here are a few two-tone items I’m coveting these days.

  1. Oscar De La Renta Acorn Ice Bucket
I’m not currently in the market for an ice bucket, but if I were…
  2. Tory Burch Chase Ballet Flats / Pumps
If there is one true constant in life, it is Tory Burch’s endless selection of two-toned treasures. I love the large cuffs and sweet studs, but my favorite of Tory’s tortoiseshell range are the “Chase” flats and pumps.
  3. L. Erickson Hair Accessories
For someone who complains about how Jennifer Aniston always wears her hair the same way, I could really stand to mix up my ‘do every once in a while. These adorable accessories may be just what I need to get creative in the morning. (I love the lighter tortoiseshell option!)
  4. FRENDS Headphones
My pink earbuds have seen better days and it’s definitely time for a replacement pair. With these, my morning commute just got a lot more stylish…
  5. Accessory Concierge Half Moon Pendant
This simple necklace will pair perfectly with all my favorite sweaters. Just a touch of sparkle makes the tortoiseshell shine!
  6. Tortoiseshell Mirror
I have been on the hunt to find the perfect tortoiseshell mirror and have yet to find any I love as much as this (sold-out!) piece from One Kings Lane. They say you find love when you stop looking…time will tell!
  7. Neiman Marcus Glassware
These wine glasses + my favorite Gewürztraminer + Scandal = ideal Thursday night.
  8. Bobbi Brown “Cool” Eye shadow PaletteSix of my go-to shades in a sleek tortoiseshell compact? Bobbi Brown continues to prove that she is truly a girl after my own heart.

What trend have you always loved?

Trend Watch: French Bulldogs

French Bulldogs have been one of my longtime loves, and all of the sudden I am seeing them everywhere! Despite the fact that I follow about fifteen French bulldog accounts on Instagram, I still can’t get enough of them. I first noticed French Bulldogs making an appearance in fashion in J.Crew’s 2012 winter collection. Now these darling little dogs are printed on everything from sweaters and shoes to iPhone cases and pillows. I will definitely be taking advantage of this Frenchie frenzy as I move into my new place and freshen up my wardrobe for fall.

  1. French Bulldog Sweater: Leave it to Anthropologie to make French Bulldog fashion look this cute and classy. I am always a fan of stripes and that little Frenchie tongue sticking out is so adorable.
  2. Frenchie Silhouette: I love the Victorian flair that a black and white silhouette can give to a room – especially if it is of a French Bulldog. I hope to fill a blank wall in my new apartment with one of these.
  3. Memo Pad: Paper Source is my-go to for fun inspirational desk supplies. This memo pad will surely motivate me to make progress on my to-do list.
  4. French Bulldog Statue: Since my new apartment doesn’t allow dogs, I guess these will have to do for now. They are also a perfect way to hang necklaces and bracelets!
  5. Frenchie Flats: Of course Marc Jacobs featured French Bulldogs on a pair of flats. Two of my favorite things – these are a must for me!

Eye Candy: Layering Jewelry

The old rule that you should remove at least one accessory before leaving the house? No, thank you! When it comes to jewelry, we believe in the mantra “the more the merrier.” Mastering the art of accessorizing can be difficult, so we turn to Pinterest for inspiration. Here are a few of our favorite layered looks:
