The leaves have officially started changing colors here in Chicago, which means it’s time to put away my baby pink bag and transition not only my actual purse to fall, but the contents that are inside of it, as well. I have pretty dry skin all year round, so when the temperatures start dropping, it’s more important than ever to do my best at keeping my skin hydrated.
Here are a few items that help me with that, along with some of my additional must-haves:
L’Occitane Hand Cream
Out of all the hand creams I’ve tried (which is a lot!) I always return to L’Occitane. The lavender scent is definitely my favorite. It instantly stops my hands from feeling dry but doesn’t leave a greasy residue.
Hourglass Velvet Crème Lipstick in Nocturnal
This shade from Hourglass is the newest lipstick color I added to my arsenal. Hourglass lipsticks are extremely hydrating, and the berry color is perfect for fall.
Even though the temperatures are getting cooler, the sun (thankfully) doesn’t seem to be going anywhere. I love tortoise shell and mirrored lenses, so when I came across this pair by Illesteva, I knew I had to have them.
J.Crew Poketo Marble Blank Notebook
You’ll never catch me on the go without this. Whether I’m writing to-do lists in it or taking notes during an important client meeting, this trusty notebook goes with me everywhere.
Chloe ‘Lauren’ Scalloped Ballet Flat
In PR, you never really know where your day is going to take you. I could go into work in the morning thinking I’ll be sitting at my desk all day to find out that’s totally not the case. Because of this, on days when I wear heels, it’s always important to have a back-up pair of flats ready to go!
What do you tote around during the fall season?
I’m a self-professed product junkie. I spend way too much time watching YouTube tutorials, skimming through Allure and scouring my favorite beauty sites (Shout out to Byrdie!) for the latest and greatest products to hit the market. However, I had an aha moment this weekend that sent me straight to my nearest Sephora for a beauty overhaul.
I was headed out for a day of errands this past Saturday, and I was running through my usual makeup routine when everything went haywire. All of a sudden, my foundation wasn’t blending, my concealer looked cakey, and my bronzer? Let’s not even go there. I decided I needed to toss everything and just start fresh. Enter, my new favorites:
Laura Mercier Silk Crème Oil Free Photo Edition Foundation
I like a nice heavy coverage, and this stuff is AMAZING – we’re talking super flawless finish. I apply it with the Beautyblender that I finally broke down and bought. I’ve always used the dupes thinking how great can this thing really be? Note: It’s life-changing!
MAKE UP FOR EVER Ultra HD Invisible Cover Stick Foundation
I always used the Anastasia Beverly Hills Contour palette but I found the powders weren’t working with my skin. I picked up this stick foundation in a few shades darker than my skin tone and blend it in with the Sephora Collection Pro Full Collection Airbrush #53. If I know I need my makeup to last, I’ll go back in and set the cream contour with the Anastasia palette
NARS Radiant Creamy Concealer
This stuff is the things beauty myths are made of. I picked this up in the color Vanilla and I can actually use this for spot coverage AND to conceal my dark circles. In what world does that happen? I will also say the coverage is crazy good; I don’t even need to set it with powder to have it last all day.
Origins GinZing Refreshing Eye Cream
I’ve heard the hype about this stuff for years and I finally took the plunge. I am officially kicking myself for not giving this stuff a try earlier. Between after-work networking events and client meet-ups, there can be some long days at Skirt so an energizing eye cream is a must.
What are you beauty faves?
I tend to over-prepare and over-pack my bag for pretty much every outing or occasion, whether I’m just running a few errands, off to the office, headed to the beach for the day, or out to dinner with friends. However, sometimes it’s just not OK to bring a borderline suitcase, so when I’m limited on purse space, there are a few top items I always have with me.
Kashi Chocolate Almond and Sea Salt Granola Bars
I’m a huge snacker and always like to have something in my bag to munch on. I recently discovered these Kashi Chocolate Almond Sea Salt Granola bars: They not only solve my snacking problem but they are the perfect cure for my crazy sweet tooth.
Clinique Chubby Stick: Plushest Punch
I’ve been a big fan of the Clinique Chubby stick since I started wearing lipstick. It’s the perfect balance between a tinted Chapstick and a full-on lipstick, which is great when you’re on the go. They have so many amazing colors, but I’m currently carrying Plushest Punch to take me through the rest of the summer.
Tory Burch Sunnies
I don’t go anywhere without a pair of sunglasses, rain or shine. I love these Tory Burch shades because they are such a classic look. I think it’s important to have a nice, neutral pair that works for any occasion!
There’s nothing more that I dislike than having my hair in my face (let’s not forget we live in the Windy City!). Whether I’m at the office or out with friends, I almost always end up putting my hair back. This leather bow clip is my favorite because it holds my hair and is a lot cuter than a big ol’ cluster of bobby pins.
Portable phone charger
I would have included my phone in this round-up, but since it is usually glued to my hand, it’s rarely in my bag. With that being said, this portable phone charger is a must-have! This comes in handy especially when I’m headed out for daylong activities because there is nothing worse than a dead phone!
What will you always find in your purse?
My fiancé and I love to spend time outside as much as the Chicago weather will let us. In the summer months, we enjoy attending concerts at Ravinia and movies in the park. We incorporated a lot of the supplies we need for outdoor activities into our wedding registries. Our family and friends caught on and now we are all set for lots of fun concerts, movies in the park, the beach and more!
Here are a few items that we will be toting around in our picnic “bag:”
L.L.Bean Boat and Tote Bag (Extra-Large)
This is a great and universal bag. It is sturdy and my fiancé would approve of carrying it. J You can even get it monogrammed for an additional special touch.
Williams-Sonoma Bone Handled Cheese Knives
What picnic or cocktail hour does not have cheese? I love the bone handles on these cheese knives. They are so classic and can be used year round.
Crate & Barrel Table In A Bag
In the past, we have borrowed this table from my future in-laws, so they decided to give us our own. This table is so easy to set up and is a great size and height!
Crate & Barrel 36″ Tablecloth in “Tinley Blue”
To add a special touch to our picnic setting, we received this very attractive tablecloth for our table. I love the design and it fits perfectly on our table.
Mark and Graham Everyday Acrylic Tumblers
These tumblers are the perfect glasses for outdoor beverages. My aunts monogrammed them for us and they are adorable. Did I mention I love monograms?
Pendleton Motor Robe Blanket in “Rob Roy”
We received this amazing blanket in Rob Roy PIaid from my MOH. I love the classic plaid and the blanket comes with leather straps so all you need to do is roll it up and you are set!
Now, go check out the Movies in the Park and Ravinia schedule and enjoy your time outdoors!
With spring in full swing, I’ve finally whipped out my favorite camel bag, the perfect carry-all to accompany the morning commute or run errands. I find light brown leather so classic, and often pair it with everything, especially in the warmer months. This bag has been my trusty sidekick, and its crossbody strap has made it my go-to for traveling or running around. A few things that you’ll never find me without are….
Bobbi Brown Creamy Matte Lipcolor in “Pink Nude”
This is my favorite form of lip color; not only is it moisturizing and acts as a lip balm, but provides the perfect pop of long-lasting color. I’ve been super into subtle nudes lately, so this “Pink Nude” hue has been a great shade to polish off my beauty look
The Andy Cohen Diaries – A Deep Look at a Shallow Year
I am quite the Bravo addict, so Andy Cohen’s newest book dishing his experiences with the network’s most infamous reality stars and A-list celebrities has been the best way to pass time during the morning commute. You’ll get lost in the (true) stories about Gaga and SJP, and learn about his love affair with Wacha, his new puppy. And what’s better than a puppy?
J.Crew pocket-sized umbrella
You truly never know when Chicago weather is going to turn on you, so I always like to be prepared. This trusty pocket-sized umbrella doesn’t take up much space in my tote and has a cute preppy-print for the occasional unexpected spring shower!
Bose FreeStyle Earbuds
My brothers recently (and very generously) gifted me these Bose headphones, and they have opened my eyes to the difference that quality earbuds can make. I carry them everywhere and use them multiple times throughout the day. Bottom line – always trust brothers when it comes to tech accessories!
Ray Ban “Meteor” Sunglasses
You will never find me without sunglasses, ever. I believe they’re the best accessory for adding a finishing touch to your look. Right now, I’m loving these oversized vintage-tortoise Ray Bans for spring, perfect for Chicago rooftop season!
