Guest Post: The Perfect Shopping Playlist

Today we have a very special guest on the blog – Lisa E. DeVries is the Marketing Director of Westfield Fox Valley in Naperville/Aurora and a verified shopping addict! Crossing her fingers that she is selected for the next episode of “Hoarders,” Lisa is a seasoned and sassy Chicago area marketing vet. In her words, she loves horror movies, vintage motorcycles and Skirt PR (aw!). Not to mention, she has amazing taste in music! Take it away, Lisa:

I’m not sure what came first, my love for shopping or my love for music. These are some of my go-to tunes when racking up new purchases.

Underworld – “Ring Road”

A superb snapshot in time: lazy afternoon people watching at the mall. The first time I heard Underworld was in the late ‘80s, you know, when everyone had a crush on that cute boy that worked at the record shop in the mall… My crush just happened to love Underworld.

The Smiths – “Shoplifters of World Unite”

We don’t like shoplifters in the mall business.

Franz Ferdinand – “Shopping for Blood”

Alex Kapranos has one of the sexiest voices, gets me all in the shopping mood…Time for a new LBD, Obsessive Compulsive Cosmetics Lip Tar in “Meta” and combat boots (don’t ask).

Grace Potter and the Nocturnals – “Money”

Having a bank account is overrated; I’d rather have another pair of shoes.

Talking Heads – “Nothing but Flowers”

The end of all consumerism? No more malls? NO WAY!

The Shamen – “Make it Mine”

A little bubblegum from the early ’90s but kind of my theme song when I hit the mall.

Dana’s Anything Goes Playlist

Sometimes you just need to hit “shuffle” and see what happens. Because what happens could be magical…

Miles Davis – “So What”

Ever since becoming epically obsessed with Claire Danes’ character in “Homeland,” I’ve started listening more to jazz – but only when I’m on secret CIA missions!

The Verve – “Bitter Sweet Symphony”

Go ahead and try to listen to this song without picturing Reese Witherspoon driving Ryan Philippe’s car at the end of “Cruel Intentions”. You can’t do it!

Bright Eyes – “Land Locked Blues”

Confession: I was a HUGE Bright Eyes fan in high school. I would like to blame it on my emo phase, but Conor Oberst is just so good.

Three Dog Night – “Old-Fashioned Love Song”

This playlist would not be complete without a song or two from my favorite decade, the 1970s. Nothing says classic like smooth harmonies and romantic lyrics!

The Beatles – “Michelle”

An under-appreciated classic in their repertoire, this song never fails to remind me of elementary school, when I thought I was the first person to discover The Beatles. True story.

The Perfect Fourth of July Playlist

The key to a memorable Fourth of July barbecue? Aside from a stylishly patriotic outfit, this playlist.

Ghost Beach – Miracle
The perfect song for when the party is winding down, but you’re not quite ready to call it a night. Catchy and upbeat without making you feel like you’re at a dance club.

Sleigh Bells – Crown on the Ground

I owe this one to “The Bling Ring” – I completely forgot how amazing this song is. It basically demands to be blasted through your iHome. Imagine this blaring through your speakers during the fireworks…YES.

Vampire Weekend – Diane Young
Vampire Weekend + a Kennedy reference…say no more.

Marina and the Diamonds – Primadonna
To quote every kid I knew in college, this song is my JAM. It’s a great representation of Marina’s girly-pop coolness and pretty much explains why I’d totally be her best friend if she asked me.

Ra Ra Riot – Beta Love
This song has been on my “Essentials” playlist for about six months and I still get super amped every time it comes on. Another great song to pair with the fireworks.

Miley Cyrus – Party in the U.S.A.
How could this not be on a Fourth of July playlist?

Adrienne’s Favorites Playlist

Best Summer Songs 2013Here are a few songs that I’m currently into and a few that have popped back onto my playlist! Note: I haven’t had a chance to hear the new Daft Punk album yet, so I apologize because I’m sure I should have something from that featured below…!

Dan Croll – From Nowhere

I believe critics are describing his music as, “folkie-endorsed electronic music,” but I just like the overall vibe of this song. You’ve got to love anyone who says he’s influenced by Paul Simon and Burt Bacharach.

Alt-J – Breezeblocks

(OF course) I heard this song while shopping at American Apparel and instantly had to track it down. I love that this music is described as “folk-tronica” and think they offer solid vocals, good beats and some fun instrumentals.

Lumineers – Stubborn Love

As far as I’m concerned, my husband is the master of music. When he suggests a band — I listen. So, when he started playing The Lumineers waaaaay before “Hey Ho” became what it is, he loved “Stubborn Love.” It has become an instant classic in our house.

The Wombats – Jump Into The Fog

This song reminds me of something I would find on the soundtrack to a great John Hughes movie because of its new wave ’80s sound. I can picture the Brat Pack dancing to it, which makes me smile!

Phoenix – Trying to be Cool

Like the movie, “Jerry Maguire,” this title had me at hello. If you like the regular version, you may also like the funked-up version that Breakbot recently created, too!

What are you listening to right now? Let us know in the comments and @SkirtPR!

Adrienne
