Valentine’s Day Playlist

DANAS_VALENTINES-DAY-PLAYLIST

Much like my Halloween playlist, my idea of romance and love is a bit quirky, but hopefully this collection of songs will make your Valentine’s Day plans a little more dark and moody (and, you know, romantic)!

“Dreams” by Fleetwood Mac
Okay, so the lyrics are super depressing (about the dissolution of the relationship between Stevie Nicks and Lindsey Buckingham), but something about the melody and the chords make it hauntingly romantic and beautiful.

“Back At Your Door” by Maroon 5
Clearly I have a problem, because the most romantic stories to me are the ones about relationships you just can’t let go of. I never understood America’s crush on Adam Levine – until I heard his crooning on this lovely ballad.

“Dance Me To The End Of Love” by The Civil Wars
Well, obviously it would not be a good playlist without at least one song by The Civil Wars.  At least this one is dark AND romantic, right?

“We Are Stars” by The Pierces
Another haunting love song. Shocker. But this one is really good, I promise!

“A Night Like This” by The Cure
What girl doesn’t want a man to find her even “if it takes all night”? I can’t be the only one with THAT fantasy!

What offbeat songs do YOU find romantic?

Anne’s January Playlist

“Obvious Child” by Paul Simon
I’ve been a fan of Paul Simon for quite some time, but “Obvious Child” has been making its way to the top of the list as one of my favorites of his, which is saying something considering how much I love “Cecilia.”

“Octahate” by Ryn Weaver
My roommate introduced me to this musician at the end of last year and it is now in steady rotation in my playlist. Hopefully we’ll all be hearing more from her in 2015!

“Uptown Funk” by Mark Ronson, featuring Bruno Mars
Who doesn’t like an upbeat number every once in a while? Listening to this song, especially during a winter commute, puts a little pep in your step…and the music video is just as good as the song thanks to some snazzy dance moves and Bruno Mars rocking a pink suit.

“Falling” by Haim
It was hard to pick which song from the sister trio was my favorite. I can only imagine how good they would be live, so here’s to hoping they make their way back to Chicago soon!

“You’ve Got the Love” by Florence and the Machine
When will she come out with her next album? In the meantime, I’ll keep “You’ve Got the Love” on repeat and keep my fingers crossed that her upcoming Coachella appearance is a sign of new tunes on the way.

Playlist: Tedeschi Trucks Band

TEDESCHI-TRUNKS-BAND_PLAYLIST

It’s not often that I find a band that I like that didn’t originally form in the ‘70s or before, so when I first heard Tedeschi Trucks Band last year, I was floored. Comprised of an 11-piece band and led by husband and wife duo, Susan Tedeschi and Derek Trucks (of Allman Brothers’ fame), this band is truly incredible. They’ve consistently been my favorite band for quite some time, and their music is perfect for any mood. Here a few of their tracks that always find a home on all of my playlists:

 “Do I look Worried”
This was the song that hooked me. It is so haunting and evokes such strong emotion, which can really be felt through the combination of the instrumentals as well as Susan’s voice.

 “Misunderstood”
I love this upbeat and bluesy tune. I also love the strong female lead, which is featured on almost every one of their songs.

 “Bound for Glory”
Such a powerful song that combines lots of inspiration from different genres of music. I saw them play this live and it was unforgettable.

 “Sweet and Low”
As implied in the title, this is a very sweet sounding song. It is a bit softer than some of their other work, so this is a great song to relax to.

 “Part of Me”
This is one of my favorite songs. It really makes you feel the love and whenever I hear it I just want to get up and dance!

Dana’s Halloween Playlist

DANA'S-HALLOWEEN-PLAYLIST

There are people who love Halloween and there are people who LOVE Halloween. I would undoubtedly fall into the second category, because this is my absolute favorite time of the year. Everything from the crisp air to the scary movies has me in a giddy mood and, like any music lover, I have the perfect playlist to accompany it:

“Love Remembered” (the theme from Bram Stoker’s Dracula)
Okay, so this may seem crazy but I honestly believe that this Francis Ford Coppola retelling of the classic vampire novel is one of the most beautiful and romantic films of all time. And the theme song, by Anton Coppola, is just as haunting and lovely.

“Sweet Transvestite” from Rocky Horror Picture Show
While not a classic Halloween tune, this song (and amazing movie) is all about dressing up, playing a part, and having the best night of your life.

“Bury Me Alive” by We Are The Fallen
I may or may not have seen this on an episode of Vampire Diaries and immediately downloaded it. It’s got all the Halloween elements: haunting, dark, and creepy as can be.

“Senile” by Young Money ft. Lil’ Wayne, Nicki Minaj, and Tyga
This will definitely be my creepy rap jam at every Halloween party I go to this year (doesn’t everyone have a creep rap jam?!).

“Devil’s Backbone” by The Civil Wars
Everyone in the office can attest to my love, nay, obsession with The Civil Wars, so they had to make the list. This song is haunting, mysterious, and devilish – SO Halloween!

What are your favorite creepy tunes to listen to this time of year?
